John B. "Jack" Gurlitz

WORCESTER- John B. "Jack" Gurlitz, 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at the Lutheran Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center after a battle with cancer.

He was born in Worcester on October 22, 1949, son of the late Reuben and Alice (King) Gurlitz. He attended local schools and following his graduation from high school, Jack enlisted in the United States Army to proudly serve his country during the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge he attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he earned a bachelor's degree in Sociology.

Jack was employed for many years at the Key Program and later worked for the Stetson School in Barre until his retirement. He was an avid fan of all New England sports teams but was especially devoted to the Boston Bruins. He possessed a sharp mind and enjoyed trivia and politics. He especially enjoyed the gameshow Jeopardy and could answer most questions with ease. Jack had a kind heart and a dry sense of humor. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He leaves behind his siblings, Robert Gurlitz and his wife, Claire of Worcester, Lois Gurlitz of Worcester, Thomas Gurlitz and his wife, Kathryn of Virginia, Daniel Gurlitz of Plum Island and Jill Lund and her partner, Kevin of Windham, NH; seven nieces and nephews; seven great nieces and nephews; extended family members and friends.

Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his aunts and uncles.

In accordance with his wishes, funeral services will be held privately. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of the Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. His family asks that memorial donations be considered to VNA Hospice, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608 or to Veteran's Inc. 69 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01605.
