West Boylston
John L. Harris 77, of 18 Hosmer St. in the Oakdale section of West Boylston died Thursday (Jan.23) at Saint Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, Worcester, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 51 years, Mary J. (Nicholson) Harris, three sons, John J. Harris of Merrimack, NH, David P. Harris of Worcester, and James G. Harris of Essex, CT, two daughters, Janet M. Harris of Frankfort, KY and Julie A. Harris of West Boylston, a foster son, Sean P. Fitzgerald of Manchester, NH, and a foster daughter, Christine L. Ripley of the Oakdale section of West Boylston, two brothers, George Harris of Worcester and James Harris of Shrewsbury and five grandchildren. Three brothers, Kosta Harris, William Harris and Harry Harris and a sister, Claire Grenoske all predeceased him. He was born in Philadelphia, son of Ligor and Jennie S. (Rodje) Harris. He graduated from Commerce High School and was an Army Veteran of WWII serving in the European Theatre.
He worked for KomTek Inc for 34 years before retiring several years ago, prior to that he worked for the Bell Company.
He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, the Harold N. Keith American Legion Post%23243, Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign War %236907, active in the West Boylston Athletic Association and the West Boylston Little League and Babe Ruth League. He was also a member of the Worcester Children's Friend Society for 27 years and an avid bowler.
A Funeral will be held Saturday (Jan.25) from Fay Brothers Funeral Home 1 West Boylston St. with a Mass at 11a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church 111 Worcester St. Burial will be in the Spring in High Plains Cemetery. Calling Hours will be held Saturday (Jan25.) from 9 to 10:30a.m. at the funeral home.
