John F. Macek Jr., 70, of Worcester, MA, passed on August 1, 2026, at UMass Medical Center.

Born in Manchester, NH, on May 8, 1956, John was the son of Angela and John F. Macek, MD. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the College of the Holy Cross and a Master of Business Administration from Babson College. John committed his life to providing for his family and was a career-long accounting professional before retiring in 2023. His values for family and education live on through his children and grandchildren.

John enjoyed his free time by spoiling his grandchildren, attending performances at Hanover Theatre, traveling to Alaska and multiple national parks with his wife, and walking his beloved dog, Bonkie, on the Mass Central Rail Trail. He was a lifelong New England sports fan and regularly heckled his sons-in-law for their poor team choices. His family will miss his infamous “Dziadzu Truths,” backyard barbecues, and tales from the neighborhood he gathered on his daily walks with Bonkie.

John is survived by his wife of 44 years, Martha; his 3 children John (Caroline) Macek III of Boston, MaryEllen (Michael) Noonan of Kensington, MD, and Catherine (Michael) Dempsey of Duxbury, MA; 4 grandchildren John IV, Dennis, George and Poppy; siblings Elizabeth Macek of New York City, Margaret Macek of Boston, Edward (Stacey) Macek of Laconia, NH, and James Macek of North Attleboro, MA; and nephew Alexander Macek.

A visitation will be held from 9 am to 10:30 am on Friday, August 7th at Callahan Fay Caswell Funeral Home located at 61 Myrtle Street in Worcester, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at Christ the King Church in Worcester. Burial to immediately follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Worcester. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in John’s memory to UMass Memorial Cancer Center. The family thanks the Cancer Center and Dr. Tasneem Ali for their care over the last several years.
