John H. McAvoy, 79, of the Life Care Center of Auburn, formerly of Wachusett St. passed away Wednesday, October 13.
His wife of 44 years, Helen "Sandy" (Sharangowich) McAvoy died in 2008. He leaves two stepchildren, Theresa A. Swanson and her husband John A. of Prospect, CT and Joseph M. Dugan, Jr. and two step-grandchildren, Joseph Michael and Michael Joseph. He was born in Devon, CT son of John and Florence (Byrd) McAvoy. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War.
John was a security guard for several years for the Wackenhut Company in the Worcester area. Prior to that he and his wife managed several campgrounds and they both shared a love of camping and the outdoors. He also owned and operated horse stables in New Milford, CT. He was an avid fan of the Red Sox and Patriots and in earlier years was involved in competitive roller skating.
