West Brookfield-John F. McCann, 71, passed away Wednesday, August 10 in St. Francis Hospital, Hartford.
He leaves his wife of 42 years, Maureen A. (Sweet) McCann; three children, Jason R. McCann and his wife, Lynne of Vancouver, WA, Shawn P. McCann and his companion, Courtney Hagan of Eureka, CA, and Jessica L. McCann of West Brookfield; six grandchildren, Cristyna, Ryan, Jacob, Madison, Jonathan, and Lillian; a sister, Patricia Steinbacher and her husband, John of N. Attleboro and nieces and nephews. Three siblings, Walter McCann, Jr., William McCann, and Mary Creeron predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Walter T. and Mary E. (Farrell) McCann and graduated from Burncoat High School. Jack was a decorated Vietnam War Veteran and a Bronze Star recipient.
Jack was the Director for Building Services at the College of the Holy Cross for 32 years. He was part of a group that helped create Veterans Inc in Worcester MA. Jack believed in always helping his community and he did so through multiple clothing drives, being a Cub Scout Master for Troop 118, donations to local homeless shelters, various volunteer positions and crusading for Veteran’s rights. At Holy Cross and throughout his many adventures and journeys Jack made many lasting friendships and positively impacted countless lives.
