d. January 15, 2019

WORCESTER – John W. "Jack" Morrissey, 89, of Worcester passed away peacefully at his son's home on Tuesday, January 15, surrounded by his loving family.

Jack was born in Worcester, son of James T. and Olive (Raymond) Morrissey. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Marguerite M. "Mary" (DiCarlo) Morrissey, four sons; John P. Morrissey of Fort Myers Florida, Stephen J. Morrissey and his wife Glenda of North Brookfield, David W. Morrissey and his wife Karen of Auburn, and Michael J. Morrissey and his wife Ann Marie of Spencer; ten grandchildren, Jonathan, Jarrad, Kristen, Eric, Matthew, Daniel, Katie, Kimberly, Jeffrey and Jennifer; a brother James Morrissey and his wife Nancy of Atlanta GA and many nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by five siblings; Ann Schold, Beatrice LaPorte, Eleanor Kennedy, Raymond Morrissey and Robert Morrissey.

Jack graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War. Sixty years after being discharged from the war, Jack was honored and received his Korean War medals in a celebration at the Korean War Memorial on November 2, 2013. He continued to be honored for his service when he later received the Key to the City of Worcester on December 13, 2013. Jack spent 45 years working for the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, retiring as a Photo Engraver. He also spent 30 years as a professional driver for Joey's Limousine Service in Worcester.

Everyone that knew Jack would describe him as a standup kind of guy. He never missed an opportunity to make someone laugh. His gentle demeanor and kind heart were paired with a natural quick wit and good nature. He loved watching Red Sox and Patriot games and enjoyed his daily coffee and a scratch ticket or two with the gang at the corner store. Jack always wanted to "win big" and share his fortune. If you knew him, he has already given you something better than gold.

Visiting hours for Jack will be held Friday, January 25, from 4 to 7 pm at Callahan Fay Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street. A funeral mass to celebrate Jack's life will be held Saturday, January 26, at 10 am at Saint Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton Street. Burial with military honors will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Stephen's Church.
