Worcester-John M. Mungovan (Jack), 88, passed away Saturday, September 30 in St. Vincent Hospital.
His wife of 55 years, Judith M (Booth) Mungovan died in 2016.
He leaves five children, Noreen M. Barton and her husband, David of Worcester, Kelly A. Curtis (who has been his care giver) and her partner “Chich” Titta of Worcester, John M. Mungovan Jr, and his wife, Julie of Millbury, Deidre J of Worcester, and Daniel P. Mungovan and his fiancé, Gina M. Andros of Worcester; nine grandchildren, Derek, Jared, Kelly, Robin, Carla, Lauren, Sam, Eric and Kristina; five, great-grandchildren, Jack, Alivia, Cameron, Lyla and Zander. A sister, Winifred Sortman predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Martin and Florence (Mellor) Mungovan and graduated from St. John’s High School and attended Fordham University. He was a US Army Veteran.
Jack was a telephone linesman for New England Telephone and eventually retired as a PBX installer for AT&T. He was a Past Commander of the Main South American Legion Post#341. He was a long time/former member of the Worcester Surf Casting Club on Cape Cod, where his family continues to be members. Jack loved playing golf, especially with the growlers at Hillcrest. He was not only proud of his 3 “hole in ones” but at holding the title of Senior “growler”. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends at the Cherry Valley Post, reading, and loved keeping up with the newest technology.
Visiting Hours are Thursday, October 5 from 4 to7pm at Callahan Fay Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 6 at 10am in St. Peter’s Church, 931 Main St. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to, Veterans Inc. at www.veteransinc.org
