John J. Nugent Sr., 86, of the Washburn House, Worcester, formerly of 68 Pakachoag St. died Monday (June10) in Saint Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after anillness.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Anne L. (Murphy) Nugent, a son, John J. Nugent Jr. of Hawthorne, CA, two grandchildren, several nephews and nieces. Two sisters, Elizabeth M. Nugent of Auburn died in 1999 and Kathleen A. Nugent of Auburn died in 1998. He was born in Worcester son of John J. and Leonora W. (Daly) Nugent. He graduated from South High School, the College of the Holy Cross, received a masters degree in education from Clark University and a masters in English from Middlebury College.

He was an Army Veteran of WW II.

He was the Treasure of the Town of Auburn for many years retiring several years ago, previously he was a Bank Examiner for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and he worked for American Express, prior to that he was a Teacher at Auburn High School and Georgia Tech.

He was a member of North American Martyrs Church, Auburn Senior Center, Elm Hill Civic Club, Auburn Lodge of Elks, and Auburn Council of the Knights of Columbus %234158. He received the Riley Award for Community Service.

A Funeral will be held Friday (May14) from Fay Brothers Funeral Home 9 Hammond St. Worcester (www.faybrothers.com) with a Mass at 10 a.m. in North American Martyrs Church 8 Wyoma Dr. Burial will be in Saint John's Cemetery Worcester. Calling Hours are Thursday (June13) from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to North American Martyrs Church 8 Wyoma Dr. Auburn 01501
