West Boylston-John Philip Quigley, 82, of West Boylston passed away peacefully Saturday, July 4, in UMass Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

He leaves two sisters, Margaret Q. Farwell and her husband, Alan of Boston and Cathy L. Hebert of South Portland, ME; a brother-in-law, James Pignataro of Shrewsbury; his dear friend Pam Threlfall of Auburn and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. A sister, Mary P. Pignataro and a brother-in-law, Robert Hebert predeceased him. He was born in Quincy, son of Melvin J. and Grace H. (Daudelin) Quigley and graduated from Lowell Technical College with a BS in Physics and received his master’s degree in Physics from Northeastern University.

John worked as a Microwave Tube Engineer at Raytheon and was a Physics Instructor at Wentworth Institute before joining Lederle Laboratories/Pfizer as a senior engineer where he spent most of his career. After retiring from Pfizer, he became an avid volunteer as a Medicare SHINE counselor at the Worcester Senior Center, a tax preparation advisor at the West Boylston Senior Center and an election worker for the town of West Bolyston.

John loved art, especially Van Gogh, and spent time in Paris, Amsterdam and Arles following the impressionist’s journey. He enjoyed music, especially bluegrass and attending the Joe Val Bluegrass festival with Pam in Framingham. John was a lifelong learner, who loved to read and could have a conversation on any topic.

John will be buried privately in Mount Vernon Cemetery with his parents.
