John T. Ransome, 72, of 82 Mill St. died Tuesday (May 21) in UMASS Memorial Medical Center-Belmont St. Campus after an illness.
His wife Myrtle (Hodgerney) Ransome died in 1972. He leaves a son John T. Ransome Jr. of Puerto Rico, a daughter, Janice Ransome of Spencer, a brother Charles Ransome of West Virginia, two sisters, Dolly Frazier of West Virginia and Hester Lou Ransome of Illinois, a close companion Jeanne L. Price of Worcester, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nephews and nieces. He was born in Pond Gap, West Virginia son of George O. and Mary (Jeffrey) Ransome. He attended school in West Virginia.
He was a Army Veteran of the Korean War and was in the invasion of Inchon, while serving in Korea he was awarded the Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars.
He worked for 22 years as a driver for various Oil Companies in the Worcester area retiring in 1975, prior to that he worked for Continental Baking Company in Youngstown, OH.
He was a member of the National Society of the Third Infantry Division U.S. Army, and Past President of its New England Outpost 11, a member of the National Korean War Veterans Association and its Central Mass Chapter, he was a Past Commander of the former Veterans of Foreign War Homer Wheaton Post, a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Rochdale Post %237556, Disabled American Veterans Worcester Chapter %234, and the Assembly of God Church.
A Funeral will be held Friday (May 24) at 1pm. At Fay Brothers Funeral Home (www.faybrothers.com) 9 Hammond St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling Hours are Thursday(May23) from 6 to 8pm. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made to the donors choice.
