Joseph M. Brennan

WORCESTER-Joseph M. Brennan, 85, of Worcester, died Tuesday, October 13, 2015. His wife Justine M. (Shea) Walsh-Brennan predeceased him on December 26, 2009.


He leaves a son, Michael A. Brennan and his wife Cheryl of Worcester; four daughters, Patricia A. Walsh, and her husband Ronald Hewett of Worcester, Justine M. Walsh of Worcester, Francine H. Ryan, and her husband Paul Ryan of Northborough and Suellen Lamothe of Worcester. He also leaves a sister, Mary O'Leary and her husband Al of N. Oxford; a brother, William Brennan and his wife Phyllis of Ocala, FL; six grandchildren, to whom he was affectionately known as Dah; two great granddaughters; many nephews and nieces and great nephews and great nieces. He was predeceased by a son, John P. "Jackie" Walsh and a daughter, Rosemary T. Walsh.


He was born in Roxbury, son of Irish immigrants Joseph and Mary (King) Brennan, attended Commerce High School, Newman Preparatory School in Boston and University of Alabama. Joe served several years in the U.S. Army during which time he was stationed stateside in South Carolina and New Jersey and also at the Constabulary Squadron, Darmstadt, Germany. Joe was employed by the City of Worcester Department of Public Works for 40 years before retiring. Prior to that, Joe worked at Crompton and Knowles, Wyman Gordon and Providence & Worcester Railroad.


Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 16 from 9:00-10:30 AM at CALLAHAN FAY & CASWELL FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle Street. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM at St. John's Church, 40 Temple Street. Burial is in St. John's Cemetery.
