LUNENBURG- Joseph T. Dayton, Jr., 72, passed away suddenly on February 2, 2023 at Health Alliance- Leominster Hospital after being stricken ill.

 

Joe was born in Chelsea, the second of seven children, to Joseph T. and Margaret (Smith) Dayton. He was raised in Berlin and graduated from Tahanto High School before enlisting in the United States Navy to proudly serve his country. Joe was a Ship’s Serviceman stationed on the USS King (DLG10) during the Vietnam war. Upon his discharged he returned and begin a career as a plumber. Joe was employed as a plumber with the City of Waltham for 30 plus years until his retirement.

 

A proud veteran, Joe was a member of the American Legion Post 142, D.A.V. of Leominster- Noe P. Valois Memorial Chapter 24, Franco American War Veterans in Leominster, VFW Post 523 in Clinton and held membership with the Elks Lodge 1237 in Leominster.

 

Joe lived to love and loved to live. He loved good food, good bourbon, and the companionship of good friends. Joe loved his family….and if you were a friend of Joe, you were “framily”. He loved spending time with his “Bride” stopping off for a drink and trying his luck on a game of Keno. He especially loved going to his grandchildren’s sports games and spending time with them.

 

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Susan A. (Fleury) Dayton; his son, Joseph T. Dayton III and his wife, Rebecca of West Wareham; his daughter, Leanne James and her husband, Nicholas Doyen of Lunenburg; his beloved grandchildren, Deirdre Dayton, Joseph James and Daniel James.
