It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of a man with a truly big heart, Joseph “Joe” “Jojo” Hanley, on June 19th, 2026 at the age of 54. Joe was known for his spirit, generosity and his outgoing personality. He had the ability to make friends wherever he was. If anyone knew how to have a good time and appreciate life it was Joe.

Jojo leaves many that will miss him dearly including his loving mother, Tsuruko (Shimabuku) Hanley; his sister, Tina Hanley-Hassett and her husband, Dean; his niece, Jackie Hanley and her two daughters, Alexandra and Olive Foley whom he loved to spoil whenever he had the chance. He was predeceased by his father, David Hanley on December 1st, 1981 and his beloved older brother, Leonard “Lenny” Hanley on January 2nd, 2003 at the age of 34.

Though Joe earned an associate’s degree in criminal law at QCC, he eventually found his true niche in floor installation, a profession he took pride in. He dedicated many years of hard work building his reputation in the construction field allowing him to work for himself. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his family and friends. He believed life should be enjoyed. Joe was a devoted football fan and enjoyed the latest movies, games and gadgets and occasional gamble. Those that knew him best would say he lost more money than won. Joe could be counted on for some fun in the sun by the water with a cold drink in his hand without fail.

Joe will be fondly remembered for his signature “hyello” whenever he answered the phone, his infectious sociability, and his playful penchant for a little mischief. Whether he was sweet-talking his way, or simply sharing a laugh, Joe had an enormous heart that drew people in. He lived fully and loved deeply, leaving an incredible mark on everyone fortunate enough to have known him. While his family and friends will miss him tremendously, they find comfort in the countless memories he leaves behind. His legacy is one of kindness and joy-a reminder to cherish our loved ones, enjoy life, and never miss the opportunity to make someone smile. Joe lived exactly the way he wanted, surrounded by people and squeezing every bit of happiness out of life, and then some. His presence lit up any room, and the warmth of his spirit will remain with us always.

Family and friends are welcomed to a celebration of Joe’s life with visitation at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester on Friday, June 26th from 10:00am until 12:00pm.
