WORCESTER - Joseph Kenneth (Ken) MacGillivray, 77, passed away Thursday, March 28 in UMass Medical Center. He leaves two children, Sally A. Loverin and her husband, Michael, of Rutland, and Brian A. MacGillivray, of Henderson, NV; two grandchildren, Madeline and Gavin; two sisters, Sally M. MacGillivray of Somerville and Susan M. Zendzian and her husband, Paul, of Worcester; and four brothers: James A. MacGillivray and his wife, Janice (Hebert), of North Port, FL; Dr. Peter A. MacGillivray and his wife, Ann (Mathieson), of Sutton; William F. MacGillivray, Jr. and his wife, Mindy (Day), of Oxford; and Douglas P. MacGillivray of Worcester. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A son, Dennis M. MacGillivray, predeceased him.
Ken was born in Washington D.C., son of Dr. William F. and Mary V. (Sweeney) MacGillivray. He graduated from Classical High School and attended Marquette University. He loved playing the guitar and shooting pool and excelled at both. In his high school years, he and a group of friends created one of Worcester’s first local rock groups, calling themselves “The End” and playing at dances and social events around Worcester County. His love of music and the guitar were lifelong, and he especially enjoyed playing and singing the songs of the Beatles and Paul Simon. His family and friends will remember the joy he brought to family gatherings.
Visiting Hours are Tuesday, April 9 from 4 to 6:30 pm, with a Memorial Service at 6:30 pm, at Callahan Fay Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. Burial will be private, at St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Jeremiah’s Inn, 1069 Main St., Worcester MA 01603 or to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St., Worcester, MA 01606.
