WORCESTER-Joseph Francis O'Connor, 86, died Monday, December 28, 2020 at UMass University Medical Center. He was born in Worcester, son of the late John and Julia (King) O'Connor. Joe graduated from St. Peter's High School in 1952 and was very proud to have been inducted into the Guardians Football and Basketball Hall of Fame. He later attended Worcester State College and proudly served in the U.S. Army while stationed in Germany.
Joseph was a mail carrier for the USPS for 36 years before retiring and a part-time bartender at Herbie's for many years. He was a proud member of the Main South American Legion Post and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed golfing, especially with his group of "buddies". Joe was an easy-going guy and was very proud of his Irish heritage, St. Patrick's Day was considered a national holiday for Joe
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy M. O'Connor and their three children; John P. O'Connor and his wife Judy of Auburn, Linda M. Loughlin and her husband Paul of Worcester and Patricia A. Pace and her husband James of Auburn. He is also survived by six grandchildren, whom he adored; Matthew Tisdell, Allison LaFratta, Katherine M. and Alexandra R. Pace and Alyson and Kelsey O'Connor. Joe was predeceased by two brothers, John and Edward O'Connor.
All are invited to gather at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street, Worcester on Thursday, December 31st at 10:00 am to celebrate Joe's life with a Mass Of Christian Burial. Burial in St. John's Cemetery will be held privately. There are no calling hours.
