Joyce M. Makela

WEST BOYLSTON/WORCESTER

Joyce M. (Burlingame) Makela, 83, of Worcester, formerly of West Boylston died Sun., Aug. 10.
Her husband Amos Makela died in 1970. She leaves a daughter, Lynn M.Valois of West Boylston; a brother, Dexter Burlingame of Seattle, WA; three grandchildren and nieces and nephews. A son Benton R. "Benny" Makela died in 2001. She was born in the Oakdale section of West Boylston, daughter of Alfred D. and Lila (York) Burlingame and graduated from Major Edwards High School and lived in West Boylston for most of her live moving to Worcester in 1998.

Joyce worked at the former Fair in West Boylston, prior to that she worked for Sprague Electric. She was a longtime member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and the West Boylston Historical Society.

A Memorial Service will be held on Fri., Aug. 15, at 11 AM in Bethlehem Baptist Church, 307 Lancaster St. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME 1 W. Boylston is handling the arrangements. www.faybrothers.com
