Joyce Ann Roe

February 24, 1925 — April 8, 2009

SHREWSBURY
Joyce Ann (Ingraham) Roe, 84, of Shrewsbury Crossings died peacefully on Wed. April 8 at UMASS Medical Center in Worcester, MA.
Her husband of forty-nine years, Thomas W. Roe, died in 2004. She was a devoted mother to Wayne I. Roe and his wife Debra of Bethesda, MD; Glenn T. Roe and his wife Nancy of Loudonville, NY; and Diane C. Haarmann and her husband Carl of West Boylston. She also leaves three grandchildren, Alexander, Kathryn and Jennifer Roe. She also leaves several beloved first cousins. Her first husband, Levi Moak, predeceased her in 1950.
Joyce was born in Albany, NY daughter of Everett and Elizabeth (Caldicott) Ingraham, grew up in Clarksville, NY and then lived in Voorheesville, NY for more than 50 years. No stranger to hard work, as a child she had a paper route that she serviced on her bike no matter what the weather. Her first job at the Aetna Life Insurance Company in Albany brought her great satisfaction. She was extremely active in the United Methodist Church of Voorheesville and was devoted to Boy Scouts Troop %2373. Joyce was a wonderful cook and baker, with pies her particular specialty. The Boy Scouts loved holding meetings at her house, particularly on baking day. Joyce loved Voorheesville, especially when the bluebirds returned to her backyard each year and when her daffodil beds blossomed in the spring. Her location across from the park gave her special joy.
She loved playing card games, especially pinochle. Bingo was another passion. She also loved movies, particularly crime dramas. She was a life-long sports fan and looked forward to baseball season each year.
Joyce was an eternal optimist who never saw the dark side of anything or anyone. She loved people and never gave offense. To know her was to like her, and the better you knew her, the more likely you were to love her. She had a host of life-long friends.
