WORCESTER - Judith Ann Savageau, 68, passed away suddenly on July 29, 2023 at UMass Medical Center after an unexpected illness.
She was born in Worcester on June 14, 1955, a daughter of the late Morris and Ellen (Cote) Goldsmith. Raised in Worcester, she graduated from South High School before earning her Bachelor’s of Science from Northeastern University. Judy later earned a Master’s degree in Public Health from Yale University.
Judy was employed for over 30 years as an Associate Professor in Family Medicine and Community Health at UMass Chan Medical School. As an epidemiologist, biostatistician, and teacher, she dedicated her life to the practice and education of community-based public health issues and preventative health measures.
Judy was a life-long believer in community service, regularly volunteering her time with local food pantries, tax preparation services, and various collection drives to support low-income communities. She was also an avid book reader, magnet collector, and traveler.
Judy leaves behind her children, Jason Savageau and his wife, of Boston and Noelle Savageau of Chicago. She also leaves behind two sisters, Paula Savok and Lisa Oslowski, along with her niece Samantha Oslowski. She will also be remembered by numerous cousins and their families spread out across the northeast.
Family and friends will celebrate her life with visiting hours on Saturday, August 12th from 12:00pm until 1:00pm with a short funeral service to follow at the Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. A bereavement lunch will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you bring a small non-perishable item to be donated to the local food pantry she served at for over a decade.
