WORCESTER- Kathryn Elizabeth "Betty" (Gallagher) Marshall, 88, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center. She was born in Springfield, MA, daughter of George E. and Rose Elizabeth (Riopel) Gallagher. She was predeceased by her husband James J. Marshall as well as her sister, Nancy E. Dunn of Woodstock, CT. Betty leaves six children; James J. Marshall, Cathy A. Simokonis, Karen E. Shortsleeve, Sheila M. Marshall, all of Worcester and, Daniel J. Marshall and Maura E. McCarthy both of Holden. She also leaves twenty-one grandchildren, three great grandchildren, nephews, a niece and grandnephews.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish, a member of the Mercy Associates of the Sisters of Mercy, Worcester, served on the Advisory Committee of the Mercy Centre, was a Christian Doctrine Instructor at Blessed Sacrament Parish, a member of the Emerald Club and the Guild of Our Lady of Providence at St. Vincent Hospital. She served as a Gray Lady with the Worcester Chapter of the American Red Cross as a volunteer during World War II and with the same organization, as a volunteer after the Worcester Tornado in 1953 at the Red Cross Chapter House, was a member of the Worcester Art Museum, Worcester Civic Music Association and a member of the National Secretaries Association, Worcester Chapter, of which she was chosen as Secretary of the Year in 1962, and a member of several other organizations. She was employed as Executive Secretary and Office Manager of the Law Firm of Fusaro and Fusaro.
The funeral will be held on Monday, January 24 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle Street with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament, 555 Pleasant Street. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours are Sunday, January 23 from 2-4 PM in the funeral home. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
