Lloyd E. Baxter 83, of 5 Seconset St. and Hampton Beach, NH died Friday, Aug. 29, at his Hampton Beach home.

His wife of 60 years, Evelyn M. (Gleason) Baxter died in 1999. He leaves three sons, David L. Baxter of Auburn, Robert P. Baxter of Boston, Sean M. Baxter of Charlton; a daughter, Lynn K. Brodeur of Woodstock, CT; two brothers; Walter Baxter of Worcester and Robert Baxter of Boston; two sisters, Agnes Roynane of Worcester and Virginia Rand of Auburn; nine grandchildren; and nephews and nieces. A grandson Mark Baxter and two sisters, Barbara Lanciault and Mary Shedd, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Lloyd E. and Ann (Quinlan) Baxter. He graduated from St. Peter's High School. He was an Army Veteran of WWII.

He was a Worcester Police Officer for 33 years retiring in 1976 and he later worked for Travelers Insurance Company as a special investigator retiring in 1986.

He was a life long member of Christ the King Church and its men's club, the Main South American Legion Post %23341, Massachusetts Police Assoc., the Worcester Police and Firefighters Retirees, the Worcester Police Relief Assoc, past president of the Archangels Guild and served on the board of directors of the Worcester Police Credit Union. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Alhambra Council %2388 and the Bishop O'Reilly Assembly 4th Degree. While a member he served in many capacities on both the state and local level. He served as Grand Knight, District Deputy, Financial Secretary and he was currently serving as Treasuer of the Alhambra Acres Inc.

A Funeral will be held Wednesday, Sept.3, from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME 9 Hammond St. with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Church 1052 Pleasant St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling Hours are Tuesday, Sept.2 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Mercy Centre, 25 West Chester St. Worcester 01605.
