WEST BOYLSTON-Louis E. Lavoie, Sr., 100, died Mon. Feb. 26. His wife of 59 years, Loretta A. (Fortin) died in 1993. He leaves three children, Louis E. Lavoie, Jr. and his wife Marie of Lady Lake, FL, Alvin J. Lavoie and his wife Cecile of West Boylston and Helen L. Boivin and her husband Richard of Worcester; eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Eight brothers and sisters predeceased him.
He was born in Worcester March 9, 1906 the son of Edward and Eliza (Bleau) Lavoie and lived there until 1983 when he moved to West Boylston. He worked for 47 years for the former Rockwood Sprinkler Co of Worcester. He retired from Firematic Sprinkler Devices in Shrewsbury. Louis was presented the Boston Post Cane in 2005 by the Town of West Boylston Historical Commissioners as West Boylston's oldest citizen. He loved playing cards, especially cribbage, and enjoyed all sports. In 2004, Louis was ecstatic to witness the Red Sox first World Series win in 88 years. With the assistance of his loving family and close friend, Doris Stevens, Louis was able to live independently until September 2006.
The funeral will be Thursday, March 1 from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 W. Boylston St. with a Mass at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester St. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. A visiting hour will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 on the morning of the funeral in the funeral home.
