BOYLSTON-Louis Valk, 80, died Friday, Dec. 16 in Holy Trinity Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after along illness.
He leaves his wife of 51 years, Leona (Dupkis) Valk; two sons, Louis Andrew and James Edmund Valk both of Worcester; his brother, Edward Valk of Whitinsville; four grandchildren, Andrew L. of Chestnut Hill, Stephanie, Michelle and Brian all of Worcester, as well as one niece and three nephews. A brother who died in infancy predeceased him.
He was born in Whitinsville and attended schools there before enlisting in the Navy. He has lived in Boylston for the past 50 years. Louis was a Navy Veteran of WWII, enlisting at the age of 17. He served aboard the Destroyer USS Dyson and participated in numerous battles in the Pacific. His unit was awarded the Presidential Citation. He was owner and operated Valk Construction for many years. After retiring he joined the Boylston Police Dept. and later the Boylston Highway Dept. He was a life member of the American Legion-Harold N. Keith Post 204, the Blue Knights motorcycle club and was an avid motorcycle enthusiast.
The funeral will be Monday, Dec. 19 at 11:00 a.m. in FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 West Boylston St., West Boylston. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston. Visiting hours will be Sunday, Dec. 18 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home. The family request flowers be omitted and donations in Louis memory be made to the Boylston Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 634, Boylston, MA 01505.
