Westborough

Lutwig John Stepanian (95), of Westborough, MA, passed away on March 18, 2024 after a short illness. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Davagian) Stepanian of Westborough; daughter, Tara Stepanian (James A. Barton) of Marlborough; son, Christopher Stepanian (Joanne Barker) of Somerville; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Rose (Asadorian), his brother-in-law, Mitchell Asadorian, Sr., and his nephew, Mitchell Asadorian, Jr., all of Rhode Island.

Lutwig (known as Jerry) was born to John and Mary Stepanian on May 10, 1928, in Worcester, MA.

He graduated from Classical High School in Worcester and Worcester State Teachers College. He would later get his Masters of Education from Colgate University. After college, Jerry spent four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, where he was posted domestically and abroad. He returned to Worcester and met and married the love of his life, Dorothy, in 1955. He was welcomed into the large Davagian farm family (Sutton, MA) with open arms. Jerry and Dottie built their dream home in Westborough in 1961 and were blessed with two children.

A dedicated educator, Jerry spent most of his career on the STEM faculty at Framingham North High School in Framingham, MA. He was a much-beloved teacher there for many decades. He reveled in helping his students, hearing their stories when they came back to visit, and was class advisor for many North High graduating classes.

A long-time volunteer, Jerry devoted his time to the Armenian Church of our Saviour in many roles, including Treasurer, Parish Council, and Building Committee. He also volunteered for the Masons (Siloam Lodge, Westborough), the Westborough Food Pantry, the Westborough Library Building Committee, and the Westborough Senior Center. He also worked part-time at Pine Grove Cemetery, where he will be interred in the Veteran’s section.

While he held many titles, his favorites were husband and father. He was happiest spending time with his family, caring for his home and beautiful yard. He is much beloved and will be greatly missed.

Calling hours will be held at the Callahan Fay & Caswell Funeral Home (61 Myrtle Street, Worcester) on Sunday, March 24 (2-4 pm). A private funeral service will be at the Armenian Church of our Saviour.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jerry’s name to the Armenian Church of our Saviour, c/o The Stepanian/Davagian Scholarship Fund, 87 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
