WORCESTER-Madelon R. (Nygren) Metcalf, 82, died peacefully with her family by her side on March 5, 2009 at UMASS-Memorial Hospital. She leaves her husband of 59 years, John S. Metcalf; a daughter, Janet Lundsten and her husband Warren of Worcester; a son, Douglas Metcalf and his wife Elizabeth of Westerly, RI; five grandchildren, Jennifer, wife of Gregg Williams of Worcester, Jeffrey Lundsten of West Boylston and Daniel, Matthew and Megan Metcalf all of Westerly, RI. She leaves three great grandchildren, Seth, Grace and Sophie Williams and was predeceased by a great granddaughter Allison Williams in 2003. Madelon also leaves her sister, June A. Cochran of Worcester and nephews and nieces.
Born in Worcester, Madelon was the daughter of Eric and Lillian (Curtis) Nygren. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1945 and for a number of years worked at the Worcester Public Library. Madelon was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Worcester.
The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 7 in LINDQUIST LUNDIN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Butler Street. Burial will follow in All Faith's Cemetery. A visiting hour will be held the morning of the funeral from 10 until the time of the service in the funeral home.
