Marcella P. Holmes

Marcella Pauline (McCann) Holmes, 98, passed away peacefully in the home she loved on August 20,2023. She was known as Marcie to most everyone who knew her.

Marcie was the daughter of Edward and Louise McCann of Worcester, MA. She was the wife of Authur G. ‘Red’ Holmes Jr. who predeceased her in 2015.

She leaves two sons - Wayne Holmes of Louisiana, along with his wife Katie (Keiter) Holmes, and their son Sean Michael Holmes along with his wife Kerilyn, also of Louisiana, and Scot Holmes, along with his wife Susan (Beaudion) Holmes, and their son Ethan Arthur Holmes who reside in central Massachusetts. She was also a Great-Grandmother to Sean and Kerilyn’s two young children.

Marcella is survived by a sister, Dorothy (McCann) Whitcomb of West Boylston, and a brother, Edward McCann and his wife Nancy of Hammond, Louisiana, along with a nephew and several nieces. Another sister, Edna (McCann) Carlson of Wilton, New Hampshire, predeceased her in 2015.

She was a graduate of Commerce High and held a position as an office worker at Norton Company in Worcester for several years. She also worked in the cafeteria at West Boylston Jr-Sr High School for several years while her sons were school-aged and was also a dispatcher for the West Boylston police department.

She was a long-time member of St. Michaels on the Heights church in Worcester, MA, and was a member of Central Mass Chapter of the Embroidery Guild and was often admired for the quality of her needlework. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, neighbor, friend. She also took great pride in the home she and her husband built by themselves after her husband returned from serving in the Army during World War II, as well as their well-maintained yard. She was always quick to help neighbors and was known as Gramma Holmes to many of the neighborhood children.

Marcella requested that there be no calling hours. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Fay Brothers Life Celebration Home, 1 West Boylston St., West Boylston is assisting with arrangements.
