Margaret A. Bruhn

WEST BOYLSTON-Margaret Ann (Tanona) Bruhn, 80, of West Boylston, passed away suddenly in her home on Wednesday, January 21, 2015.


Margaret was born in Worcester, the daughter of two Polish Immigrants Walery and Amelia (Bujak) Tanona. After graduating from the Worcester Girls Trade School, Margaret boarded a bus to Springfield and then a train to Bainbridge, Maryland where she enrolled in the US Naval Training Center. Upon completion of training, Margaret was stationed at the Chelsea Naval Hospital, in Chelsea, Massachusetts, working in the Pediatric Unit. Margaret met and married her fellow Naval Corpsman, Carl Bruhn whom has supported and stayed by her side for the last sixty years. After being discharged from the service, Margaret and Carl moved to Denver where they started their family. After their eleventh child was born, the family moved back to Massachusetts to be closer to the love and support of Margaret's family.


Margaret is survived by her husband Carl Erwin Bruhn Jr, along with seven daughters and two sons; Mary Ambrose and her husband Robert of West Boylston, Catherine Clark and her husband Robert of Quincy, Carl Bruhn III and his wife Ann of Carmel Indiana, Steven Bruhn of West Boylston, Paula Bruhn - the daughter with whom she resided and Paula's partner John Genelli of West Boylston, Elizabeth Baldi and her husband Mark of West Boylston, Theresa Rock and her husband William of Pelham, Jo Ann Smith and her husband Larry of Shutesbury, and Carla Rubin of Uxbridge; Margaret is predeceased by her two sons; Francis Bruhn in January 2015 and Michael Bruhn in 1987.


Margaret is also survived by one sister Frances DiMeo of Worcester and one sister-in-law Ann Tanona of Worcester. Margaret was predeceased by four brothers; Joseph, Franciszek, Stanley, and Chester Tanona and four sisters Renata "Irene" Vellecco, Jean Tomasetta, Malvina Tanona and Genevieve Kiefer. Margaret loved being surrounded by her nineteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. All of whom will miss her dearly.


A trade school seamstress, Margaret was an advocate of mending and patching rather than disposing. She reveled in the plethora of flowers and birds in her yard and discussing them at every chance.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, January 29th from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 West Boylston Street, West Boylston with a Mass at 2:00 pm in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 100 Worcester Street, W. Boylston. Burial in Mt. Vernon Cemetery will be private. Visiting hours will also be held on Thursday, January 29 from 12:30 to 1:30PM in the funeral home.
