WORCESTER-Margaret M. (McNamara) Hallinan, 101, of the Knollwood Nursing Center, formerly of 47 Oneida Ave. passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 31.
She was born in Carramore, Louisburgh, County Mayo, Ireland, daughter of Anthony and Rose (Burke) McNamara. Her husband Michael F. Hallinan died in 1961. She will be forever missed by her daughters, Rosemary A. Foley and her husband Frank of Worcester; Margaret A. Prendergast and her husband Anthony of Worcester; her son James M. Hallinan of San Diego, CA.; six grandchildren, Kathleen Bates and her husband Kenneth, Karen Sullivan and her husband John, Michael Foley and his wife Kathleen, Anthony Prendergast and his wife Kelly, and Jeffrey Prendergast all of Worcester and Brian Prendergast of Chicago, IL; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Margaret immigrated to Clinton to join her siblings, John, Mary, Nora, Patrick and William in 1929 where she lived until she married and moved to Worcester in 1935. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Worcester State Hospital until she retired in 1971.
Margaret was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, and enjoyed visiting Ireland, all kinds of needlework, especially knitting and sewing.
The funeral will be Thursday, Feb. 3, from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 W. Boylston, W. Boylston with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, Feb. 2, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01710.
