Framingham- Margaret A. “Peg” (O’Grady) Hamel, 86, formerly of America St. and Galway, Ireland passed away Tuesday, November 12 in UMASS Medical Center.
Her husband of 46 years, Roland E. Hamel, Jr. died in 2004. She leaves six children, Edward Hamel of Kentucky, Roland Hamel of Framingham, Kurt Hamel and his fiancé, Vicki Martel of Oakham, Stephanie Hamel of York, ME, Eric Hamel and his wife, Peggy of Galway, Ireland and Regina Provost and her husband, Eric of Mexico, ME; thirteen grandchildren, Patrick (Neyonda) of Florida, Amanda (Jake) of Kentucky, Kurt Michael of New Hampshire, Ryan (Ashley) of New Hampshire, Cody (Bri) of Pennsylvania, Owen of Florida, Daniel of Framingham, Liam, Nicholas, Megan all of Galway, Ireland, Heather of Massachusetts, Alissa of New York and Colton of Florida; three great-grandchildren, Ryan of New Hampshire, Savanah of North Carolina and Kaley of New Hampshire; seven siblings, Helen Gaudet, Karen Hennigan, Stephanie Freeman and her husband, Carl, Noreen Beecher, Thomas O’Grady and his wife, Karen, Jay O’Grady and his wife, Beth all of Massachusetts and Kathy Saucier and her husband, Thomas of Virginia; her step-mother, Claire O’Grady of Virginia; three step-siblings, Bernadette Tesini and her husband, David, Diane Picard and her husband, Ed and Michael Gagne all of Massachusetts. She also leaves her cousin Shannon O'Grady of Massachusetts and her BFF Maura Yetter of Connecticut. She was born in Framingham, daughter of Patrick E. O’Grady and Jennie (Dzindolet) Freeman and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Milford.
In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was predeceased by her brother-in-law Robert Freeman and much loved son-in-law Frank Caruso.
Peg was a medical secretary for many years at MetroWest Regional Hospital, before retiring. Peg had several interests throughout her life. She enjoyed camping, reading, sewing, crotchet and playing cards. During her six years living in Ireland, she loved a good visit at a local pub. She enjoyed her dogs and getting pampered, especially having her nails done. In later years she even liked to get a tattoo on occasion with her children to commemorate a special moment in their lives. But most of all, Peg loved being around children, in particular her grandchildren and watching them grow up over the years.
Visiting Hours are Sunday, November 17 from 1 to 4pm with a Prayer Service at 4pm in Callahan Fay Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. Burial will be private.
