Margaret E. O'Brien

May 30, 1935 — September 20, 2018

WORCESTER-Margaret "Peggy" Edith (Bumbarger) O'Brien, 83, of Worcester, MA passed away on September 20, 2018 at UMass University Campus surrounded by loving family. Peg was born and baptized in Clearfield, PA; the family moved and Peg grew up in Rochester NY and attended St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester, NY. She worked third shift for most of her nursing career, working at Thornton's Nursing Home in her hometown of Northboro while raising her large family there. She also worked at Braemore Nursing Home, and Hahnemann Hospital. She retired from UMass Memorial Campus and lunched with her "3D" friends from time to time. After retirement, Peg also volunteered at the Worcester Public Library, and, as a crochet enthusiast, she actively engaged with Briarwood's "Knit Wits" club.

Peg was a devout Catholic and most recently attended St. Christopher's Parish in Worcester. She found comfort by attending mass and making contributions to a variety of charities and sponsoring seminarians; her generous spirit was unmatched. She always took care of others physically, emotionally and spiritually. And she always remembered birthdays and took every opportunity to honor people with cards and kind words.

Peg was predeceased by her husband, Howard F. O'Brien, daughter Elizabeth A. O'Brien, daughter-in-law Jody (Cotton) O'Brien. Margaret leaves behind the families of Kathy and Randall Hoch of Spring, TX, James and Brenda O'Brien of Shrewsbury, MA, Dennis and Linda O'Brien of Merrimack, NH, Mary O'Brien of Biddeford, ME, Patrick O'Brien of Northboro, MA, Carol O'Brien and Alberto Pawlowicz of Worcester, MA, and Michael and Cathy O'Brien of Melrose, MA. Peg leaves 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren who will miss her terribly. She also leaves several siblings, nieces, and nephews from the Rochester, NY and Clearfield, PA areas.
