SHREWSBURY-Marguerite R. (Assaf) Hermes, 92, died peacefully on Monday, August 15, 2022, at Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren.
She was born in Büyükada, Istanbul, Turkey, daughter of Emanuel and Marie (Edalopoulos) Assaf. As a young woman, Marguerite was an Executive Secretary for the Turkish ambassador in Lebanon and that is where she met her beloved Rene. They relocated to the United States in 1988 and settled in Watertown, where they lived for nearly 30 years. Marguerite then moved to Shrewsbury to be with her daughter after Rene’s death.
Marguerite was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Rene J. Hermes on August 15, 2017. She is survived by two children and their families, Rosemarie Melkonian and her husband, Berje of Shrewsbury and their children, Arthur, and Carine Melkonian, and Joseph E. Hermes and his wife, Julie of West Palm Beach and their children, Rene, and Ralph Hermes. She also leaves five beautiful great grandchildren, Andre, Nareg, Stefan, Aziz and Misk. Marguerite was predeceased by two sisters, Catherine and Angeliki.
Marguerite was a very caring, loving, and generous person who loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing and knitting and was known for her fashion sense throughout her life.
Marguerite’s funeral will be celebrated on Monday, August 22nd at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church, 635 Grove Street, Worcester. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
