Maria Del Carmen Herrera, a devoted sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on December 20, 2024, at UMass Hospital after a long illness. Born on May 24, 1963, in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, Maria's journey of love and care brought her to Worcester, Massachusetts, where she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a nursing company, providing compassion and care to those in need.
Maria found joy in spending time in Florida under a tree while gazing at the water, knitting, making jewelry, and nurturing her flower garden. Her hobbies reflected her nurturing personality and her ability to create beauty in the world around her.
Maria was a proud graduate of South High School, Class of 1983, and continued her education with a bachelor’s degree from Worcester State.
She leaves behind her siblings, Laura of Amherst, Manuel of Oxford, and Norma of Cincinnati whose lives were deeply enriched by her love and support. Maria also cherished her role as an aunt to her nieces and nephews: Laurie, Nathan, Alberto A., Jeremy, Isaac, Alicia, Lynette, Manuel Jr., and Preston, along with great nieces and nephews: Van, Eli, Ari, Ana, Catalina, Lamar Jr., and Sarah. Each one held a special place in her heart. Maria was preceded in death by her beloved father, Elio R. Herrera, and mother, Elba Herrera
