WORCESTER- Marie Teresa (Murphy) Gagan, 92, a lifelong resident of Worcester, died Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at the Overlook Masonic Health Center. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 46 years, Francis J. Gagan on February 17, 2001.
Marie is survived by two children, Mary-Ellen Gagan of Worcester and Michael F. Gagan and his wife Michelle of Sutton. She also leaves a brother, James A. Murphy and his wife Joan of Charlestown, RI; a sister-in-law, Frances Murphy of Tennessee; two step-granddaughters, Olivia and Julia; and many nephews and nieces. Marie was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and Robert Murphy; two sisters, Sister Helen Murphy of Sisters of Providence, Holyoke and Dorothy Reddy of Clinton; and a daughter-in-law, Diane (Dymek) Gagan.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of Michael A. and Margaret H. (Conway) Murphy and graduated from St. Peter's High School and the Ward School of Business. Marie worked at Ernest H. Smith Insurance Agency and then at Malmstead Insurance for many years prior to retiring. After retirement, she worked part time at Worcester Telegram and Gazette in the Customer Service Department. She was a longtime and active member of Ascension Church and was a member of the Our Lady of Providence Guild.
Marie's family would like to thank the caring staff on the second floor at Outlook Masonic Health Center for the wonderful care they provided during her several years there.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, July 23 from CALLAHAN FAY & CASWELL FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 AM at St. John's Church, 40 Temple Street. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday, July 22 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.
