WEST BOYLSTYON- Mario Marchisio, 93, of West Boylston passed away peacefully on August 19th, at the Oakdale Nursing Center.



Mario leaves four children: Joseph, and his wife Jeanne Marchisio of Bridgewater; Maureen Salisbury, and her partner Wayne Shatraw of Clinton; Ellen Marchisio of Leominster; and Nancy, and her husband Mark Warner of Cheyenne, Wyoming. In addition, Mario leaves eight grandchildren: Jeffrey Salisbury of Church Falls, VA; Ryan Warner and Kathleen Chick of Cheyenne, WY; Mathew, Julia, and Justin Marchisio of San Diego, CA; and Emily and Annie Marchisio of Bridgewater, MA. Mario was born in West Boylston, the only son of Joseph and Caterina (Pasteris) Marchisio. Mario graduated from both Leominster High School and Hebron Academy Preparatory School, where he played football, hockey, and baseball. His education was interrupted by WW II, where he served in the U.S. Army 27th Infantry Division, seeing action during the invasions of Makin, Saipan, and Okinawa. Upon his return from the war, Mario received his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois, where he played both hockey and football. Excelling in hockey, Mario had a brief tryout with the Chicago Blackhawk's before taking his first football coaching positon in Saline Michigan; he returned to Massachusetts in 1957 to take a coaching position in the West Boylston School System and obtain his Master's Degree at Worcester State College. Mario was the varsity football coach at Shrewsbury High School for 21 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Massachusetts Football Coaches Hall of Fame, the Shrewsbury High School Hall of Fame, the Mass. Football Coaches Assoc., The American Football Coaches Assoc., the Mass. Teachers Assoc., the National Education Assoc., the Disabled American Veteran Valois Post %2324, the Hiram Taylor American Legion Post %23189, and a communicant at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in West Boylston.

A Funeral will be held Saturday, August 22 from FAY BROTHERS Funeral Home, 1 West Boylston Street with a Mass at 10:30AM in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Burial will be private in Hillside Cemetery, Sterling. Visiting Hours are Friday, August 21 from 5 to 7PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Mario requested that donations be made to the Shrewsbury High School Gridiron Club.
