Marion H. McGovern

Worcester-Marion H. (Smalanskas) McGovern, 82, passed away Thursday, March 25.

Her husband of 50 years, John J. McGovern passed away in 1999. She leaves two sons, John P. McGovern of Paxton and George P. McGovern of Worcester; two daughters, Maureen C. Mitchell of Worcester and Joyce A. Clark of San Diego, CA; her brother, George Smalanskas of Worcester; her sister, Eileen Daubney of Worcester; nine grandchildren, her great granddaughter, nieces and nephews. Her grandson, Patrick McGovern, her sister, Agnes Kompel and her brother, Frederick Smalanskas predeceased her.

She was born in Pittston, PA the daughter of George and Helen (Polaski) Smalanskas and graduated from Commerce High School. Mrs. McGovern worked as a telephone operator for New England Telephone and State Mutual Insurance Company before retiring. Marion was an artist and was a homemaker famous for her strawberry pies.

The funeral will be on Wednesday, March 31 from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 W. Boylston St., W. Boylston with a Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Christopher's Church, 950 W. Boylston St., Worcester. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, March 30 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
