WORCESTER
Marjorie was born in West Boylston in 1928, the second of two children born to the late Ray D. Hubbell and Myrtis (Smith) Hubbell. She graduated from West Boylston High School and Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. Shortly after graduating from college, she married George W. Gibson, and traveled with him to military bases throughout the United States where he was stationed after WWII. They settled in Sudbury, Massachusetts in the early 1950s, where she later served as assistant to the principal of Haynes Elementary School for many years. They retired to Cape Cod in 1986.

Marjorie was the loving mother of Anne E. Gibson of Worcester, Mass., and Carol L. Gibson of Wickford, R.I. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Wilma Hubbell, and her nephew, Roger Hubbell, both of California. She was predeceased by her husband George W. Gibson and brother Roger Hubbell.

An avid genealogist and amateur historian, Mrs. Gibson authored or co-authored several books and publications, including Hubbell by Choice: The Ancestry of Some Early Connecticut Women, which has been awarded the Connecticut Society of Genealogists' Grand Prize Award in their 2009 Literary Award Contest; H.M.S. Somerset 1746-1778: The Life and Times of an Eighteenth Century British Man-o-War and Her Impact on North America; and the Historical and Genealogical Atlas and Guide to Barnstable County, Massachusetts (Cape Cod). In addition, she contributed several articles to the journal New England Ancestors, published by the New England Historic Genealogical Society. She also volunteered at the Historical Society of Santuit & Cotuit, the West Boylston Historical Society, Plimoth Plantation, and the Mayflower Society, and was active in a variety of community organizations.

Marjorie also enjoyed creating pottery, collecting antique samplers, and helping friends research their family history.

Marjorie will be buried at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in West Boylston, Mass. among several generations of her ancestors. Burial will be private, but two celebrations of her life will be held in West Boylston and Cotuit, Mass. later in the spring or early summer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the West Boylston Historical Society, P. O. Box 201, West Boylston, Mass. 01583 would be appreciated.
