Marjory S. Dick

d. August 17, 2018

Marjory S. Dick of Worcester, Massachusetts died peacefully on August 17, 2018 with her family by her side. Having spent her childhood in New Jersey, Marjory came to Massachusetts for college (Wellesley, class of '49) and stayed for marriage. She and her husband of 61 years, Daniel E. Dick, raised 9 children together, all the while remaining active in social justice causes and civic endeavors for this city at the heart of the Commonwealth.

Marjory was passionate about women's rights, church reformation (sadly, she did not live to see women become priests in the Roman Catholic Church), philosophy, music, and the arts. A lifelong learner, Marjory did graduate work in psychology, philosophy, and special education at Clark University and Assumption College. She then served as a tutor to children with learning disabilities. An accomplished pianist, Marjory composed liturgical music for the "Floating Parish" and folk songs for each of her grandchildren. A number of her classical piano compositions were performed for the Worcester Music Guild and at the Worcester Art Museum, at which she was a docent for many years. And then there was travel—oh, how our mother loved the museums of New York City and the lights of Paris!—as well as the family's summer sojourns on Cape Cod, where Marjory spent endless hours swimming in the sea.

Marjory will be sorely missed by her family. She is survived by Gary and Mary Tondorf-Dick, Carol (Dick) and Paul Buell, Marjory (Dick) and Craig Masterman, John Dick and Gail Davis, Peter Dick and Mo Scollan, Joseph Dick and Michele Maykel, Mary Helen Dick, Katherine (Dick) and Dan Brosier, and Elizabeth (Dick) and Michael Ancarana, as well as her 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Daniel, passed away in 2010.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center and Notre Dame Hospice for their many kindnesses to Marjory while she was in their care. Memorial donations may be made to Notre Dame LTCC Activities Dept 559 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01605., the Worcester Art Museum Education Dept., 55 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609 or Abby's House, 52 High St., Worcester, MA 01609.

Family and friends will gather to honor, remember and celebrate Marjory's life on Friday, August 24 from 4:00pm until 7:00 pm at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Funeral Home at 61 Myrtle St. in Worcester. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 25 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 551 Pleasant St., Worcester, with burial following immediately thereafter at St. John's Cemetery, 260 Cambridge St., Worcester.
