WESTBOROUGH- Martin F. Doherty, 81, of 20 Mayberry Drive, formerly of Worcester, died Wednesday, May 16 in St. Vincent Hospital. He leaves four sons, Frederick M. Doherty of Westfield, David F. Doherty and Jody P. Doherty, both of Worcester and Steven H. Doherty of Sturbridge; one daughter, Caren A. Doherty of Worcester, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, Frederick Doherty and a sister Claire Horgan of Annadale, VA, several nephews and nieces. A brother, Harold Doherty predeceased him.
He was born in Worcester, son of Frederick J. and Margaret A. (Horan) Doherty and graduated from St. Peter's High School. He was a decorated World War II Army veteran. Mr. Doherty owned and operated Marty's Electric Company for many years. He was a member of the Harold N. Keith, American Legion Post %23204 in West Boylston and the Westborough Memorial VFW Post %239013.
The funeral will be held on Monday, May 21 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester with a Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Peter's Church, 931 Main St. Worcester. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours are Sunday, May 20 from 2:00-4:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to SMOC/Meals on Wheels, Westborough Senior Center, 4 Rogers Road, Westborough, MA 01581.
