WEST BOYLSTON
Martin E. Groden, 64, died Monday, November 21 at home after a five-year battle with colon cancer. He leaves his wife of 40 years, Margaret M. (McKinnon) Groden; daughter, Amy E. Groden-Morrison, wife of Andrew H. Morrison of Tyngsboro; two nieces, Dr. Lisa M. Underwood of Greenfield and Lynne E. Gongre of Tampa, FL; and two grandnieces. A sister, Jean C. Groden predeceased him.
He was born in Boston, the son of Edward and Agnes (Brooks) Groden, graduated from Boston Technical High School and Northeastern University. He served in the Army National Guard. Mr. Groden retired in 2000 from GMAC after 35 years of service.
He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel and Our Lady of the Cape churches. He was a former Trustee of the Frohsinn Club in Shrewsbury and past Treasurer of the Medway Jaycees. Martin was an avid reader, and enjoyed antique car restoration, photography and collecting model trains, but his true passion was sailing. He was Captain of the "yacht" Ovation and sailed out of Bass River. He also enjoyed spending time in Dennis with his family and friends.
Calling hours will be held from 9:00 until 10:30 AM on November 25 at FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 West Boylston Street, West Boylston. The funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester Street, West Boylston. Burial will be Saturday, November 26 at 11:00 AM in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Dennis.
