AUBURN-Mary E. "May" (Ryan) Bombard, 87, formerly of 8 Greenwood Drive, died Wednesday, November 16 in U MASS Memorial Medical Center. Her husband of 45 years, James R. Bombard died in 1985. She leaves two sons, James R. Bombard and his wife Patricia Bombard of Port Jefferson, NY and John J. Bombard and his fiance Denise Minor of Washington, DC, four grandchildren, nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by four sisters, Helen Carlson, Ann Emes, Ruby Cranston and Marge Healy, and two brothers, Jim and George Ryan.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of Hughe T. and Estelle E. (Marsan) Ryan and graduated from St. Peter's High School. Mary was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Church. As the "unofficial mayor" of West Auburn and a Town Meeting member for over 25 years, she was always cognizant of the needs of her West Auburn constituents. She was also an avid fan of the Auburn High School athletic teams.
The funeral will be Tuesday, November 22 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle Street with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford Street, Auburn. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. Calling hours are Monday, November 21 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
