Mary R. “Midge” (Hughes) Desy, 82, of Blackstone River Rd. formerly of 935 Millbury St. died Thursday, September 14 at St. Vincent Hospital after a short illness.
Her husband of 61 years, Owen G. Desy died July 10. She leaves a son, Thomas O. Desy and his wife Mary K. of Worcester; two granddaughters, Lee Ann Desy of phoenix, AZ and Brenda Diggs of Worcester; two great granddaughters, Dominique and Ava Diggs both of Worcester; a brother, James J. Hughes of Bloomfield, NJ and a niece, Carol A. (Sullivan) Pingitorie of Auburn. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. A son, Ronald E. Desy and two brothers, Thomas E. and Walter J. Hughes and one sister, Ann M. (Hughes) Sullivan, predeceased her.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of Thomas S. and Sarah (McDonough) Hughes and graduated from Commerce High School. She was briefly employed at the Worcester Gas Company and later worked for many years as an attendant at Worcester State Hospital. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed Hampton Beach and live Theater.
The funeral will be Monday, September 18 from LINDQUIST LUNDIN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Butler St. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 1 Wiser Ave celebrated by her nephew, Rev. Joseph Marcotte. Interment will be at a later date at the convenience of the family. Visiting hours will be Sunday, September 17 from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the St. Louis Endowment Fund, 15 Lake St., Webster, MA 01570-2605.
