WORCESTER-Mary A. "Molly" (Mahoney) Handlin, 97, of 31 Shaffner St., died Saturday, September 30 in UMASS Memorial Hospital. Her husband of 57 years Edward J. Handlin, Sr. died in 1994. She leaves a son, Edward J. Handlin, Jr. and his wife Margaret of Saco, ME, a daughter, Patricia Lawlor of Worcester, seven grandchildren; Mary K. Ramos and her husband Joseph, Patricia A. Serrano and her husband Daniel, Margaret F. Handlin and her husband Christopher Jasonides, Thomas L. Lawlor and his wife Elizabeth, Edward J. Handlin, III and his wife Joan Santry, Eileen M. Clarke and her husband Jason and Michael E. Lawlor and his wife Carrie. She also leaves fourteen great grandchildren, a sister in law, Mary Carey of Oxford, a brother and sister in Ireland, two sisters in England and several nephews and nieces.
She was born in County Kerry, Ireland daughter of Patrick and Mary (Cronin) Mahoney and moved here in 1926 at the age of 16. Mrs. Handlin retired after 20 years from Memorial Hospital in 1974. She was a founding member of Our Lady of Fatima Church and most recently a member of St. Bernard's Church. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 3 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Bernard's Church, 228 Lincoln Street. Burial will be in Saint John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday, October 2 from 5-7PM in the funeral home.
