Mary E. Horgan

July 25, 1968 — December 17, 2021

Mary Elizabeth Horgan of Newton, MA formerly of Worcester passed away peacefully in the home of her sister, best friend, and caregiver Eileen Shea on Friday, December 17th.

Mary is the daughter of William F. and Theresa E. Horgan. She was born in Worcester, MA. She was a graduate of Burncoat Senior High and Fitchburg State University. Having worked in the financial industry for many years, Mary was currently employed at Symetra Financial Corporation where she formed many meaningful relationships. Mary courageously battled Ovarian Cancer for the past four years with a positive attitude , grace, and dignity. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, quick wit, and ready smile were ever present. Mary's life was a tremendous gift to us all and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brothers John F. and Thomas E. Horgan and her sisters Kathleen A. Horgan and Eileen H. Shea of Worcester, MA as well as her much loved niece and nephew Catie and Connor Shea of Worcester, MA. In addition, she leaves behind her uncle Rev. John E. Horgan of Shrewsbury, MA and her aunts Mary R. O'Loughlin of Worcester, MA and Rita Scanlon of West Boylston, MA as well as many other uncles, aunts, and cousins. Mary also leaves behind many close friends whom she loved and considered family.

The Horgan family wishes to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Neil Horowitz and Naomi Yager of Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Hospital . They would also like to thank the entire team of nurses and specialists who were instrumental in her care and comfort over the past few years.

The family has chosen Fay Brothers Life Celebration Funeral Home, 1 West Boylston St., West Boylston, MA to assist them with Mary's services. There will be a calling hour on Wednesday, December 22nd from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by her funeral Mass at eleven o'clock a.m. at St. John's Church, 44 Temple St., Worcester, MA. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.

In light of the current COVID situation, the family respectfully requests that masks be worn by those attending the calling hour and/or the Mass.
