Mary G. Kamami (1953 – 2026)

WORCESTER, MA / MANG’U, KENYA – Mary G. Kamami (Magdalene), 73, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born and raised in Muiri, Kenya, she was the beloved daughter of the late Margaret Mumbi and Joseph Mungai Kamami. Mary was a dedicated lifelong learner, earning her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Kenyatta University in Kenya, a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, and completing nursing studies at Quinsigamond Community College to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Mary led a remarkable 20-year career as an educator in both high school and higher education settings, where her students affectionately called her “Mwalimu.” Later in life, she pivoted into healthcare, serving as a compassionate nurse and caregiver across various medical institutions in Worcester.

She was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. Mary is survived by her loving daughter, Shila Waritu, and her siblings, Lucy Wairimu Njoroge, Theresa Njeri, Peter Njui, Joseph Ngatara, Dominic Mungai, Williamson Mwaura, Cecilia Wanjiku. She was predeceased by her brother Dominic Ngugi and sister Magdalene Njeri. She was a cherished Tata and Cucu to her many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 9 until 10AM, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 10AM, on Thursday, September 17, 2026, in Liberty Church, 495 Hartford Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA 01545. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Online condolences may be placed at www.callahanfay.com
