Mary A. Meola

January 21, 1913 — December 4, 2008

Worcester - Mary A. (Borci) Meola, 95, of Worcester, died Thursday, December 4, 2008, surrounded by her loving family in UMASS Memorial Hospital.

Her husband, Frank Meola died in 1948. She leaves a son, Frank P. Meola and his wife, Odette, of Worcester, two granddaughters, Erica M. Meola-Hedlund and her husband, Seth, of Millbury and Gretchen N. Monopoli and her husband, Mark, of Shrewsbury; four great-grandchildren, Annalise and Michael Monopoli, Noah and Christopher Hedlund; several cousins including her dearest friend, Angela Borci of Worcester; nieces & nephews. Three brothers, Peter, Joseph and John Borci predeceased her.

She was born in Worcester, daughter of John and Emelia (Ciampa) Borci and graduated from Worcester State Teacher's College. During World War II she worked at Southworks Steel Co. She then became a teacher in the Worcester Public Schools and later worked for 10 years for CenTrans at Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1978.

She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel - St. Ann Church, and its Golden Years Club, Circle of Friends and the Filenes' Club.

Mary was a selfless and compassionate woman with a tremendous love of family. She had a strong and unwavering faith in God. There was no act of kindness towards her not worthy of great and sincere appreciation.

Mary was a pillar of strength; a model of integrity; quick with a laugh or a smile; thoughtful and bountifully generous. She truly lived by example and all who knew her are better for having her in their lives. Although she will be missed beyond words, the strength, wisdom and spirit she passed on will remain.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, December 9th from Callahan & Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, with a Mass at 11:30AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel - St. Ann Church, 24 Mulberry St. Interment is in Hope Cemetery.

Visiting hours are 4 to 7 p.m Monday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank all those who contributed to her care. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
