Mary Murphy

May 27, 1925 — September 20, 2019

WORCESTER-Mary (Warren) Murphy, 94,passed away Friday, September 20 at home surrounded by her family.

Her husband, Patrick Murphy passed away in 1989. She leaves three sons, Stephen J. Murphy and his wife, Patricia of Fiskdale, John P. "Jack" Murphy of Leicester and James K. Murphy of Louisville KY,; four grandchildren, Brendan G. Murphy, Aaron S. Murphy, Kerrilyn P. Murphy, M.D. and Patrick M. Diggins; a brother, William Warren and his wife, Eileen of Wollaston and nieces and nephews. A daughter, Eileen P. Diggins, a son-in-law, James P. Diggins, Jr. and five siblings, Patrick, Cornelius, John, Margaret and Sheila McCarthy predeceased her. She was born in Annaghmore, Headford, County Kerry, Ireland daughter of Cornelius and Ellen (Fleming) Warren. She graduated from Raheen National School, before coming to Worcester in 1949.

Mary worked as an attendant in the workshop at Worcester State Hospital, for many years. In her retirement, she served as a home companion for many elderly people through-out the City, she was also proud to have volunteered at St. Vincent Hospital for over 2500 hours. She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church and active in the Bible study group. Mary was a founding member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 36 and was honored as member of the year in 2004. She was also active on many political campaigns and civic causes.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of Mary's home caregivers, especially Soraida "Sori" Oquendo for their dedication, compassion and support to Mary and Jack through-out her illness.

Visiting Hours to honor and celebrate Mary's life will be held Monday, September 23 from 4 to 7pm at Callahan Fay Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, September 24 at 10am in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of the Angels Church or to the Worcester Hibernian Culture Centre, 19 Temple St., Worcester, 01604
