Mary Rita O'Loughlin

WORCESTER-Mary Rita (Horgan) O’Loughlin, 72, of Worcester passed away in her home in the early hours of August 9,2025 after a courageous battle with Metastatic Breast Cancer. A lifelong Worcester resident, Mary, the youngest of four children of John and Helen Horgan, was born October 17, 1952, and was raised in the Grafton Hill area of Worcester. She attended both St. Stephen’s Grammer and High School and went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Education from Worcester State University and a Master of Arts in Special Education from Assumption College. Mary was an educator in the Worcester Public Schools for over 30 years with a fulfilling career in Special and Elementary Education.

Mary Rita leaves behind her brother, Rev. John E. Horgan of Shrewsbury, MA and sister in law, Theresa E. Horgan, of Worcester, MA. Her loving caretakers, niece, Eileen Shea and nephew, Thomas E. Horgan of Worcester, MA. Also, nephew, John F. Horgan and niece, Kathleen A Horgan of Worcester. Her cherished grandniece, Catherine V. Horgan Shea and grandnephew, Connor C. Shea both of Worcester, MA. Mary was predeceased by her husband, John P. O’Loughlin, her brother William F. Horgan and her niece and goddaughter, Mary E. Horgan.

The family would like to thank both Dr. Madhavi Toke and Dr. Thomas Fitzgerald of UMass Memorial Health. They would also like to thank the wonderful staff of UMass University Campus and JHC Hospice for their care of Mary in her time of need.

Mary’s funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint Christopher’s Parish, 950 West Boylston Street Worcester, MA 01606 on August 14,025 at 10:00 o’clock and be laid to rest with her adoring husband in St. John’s Cemetery. Out of respect for Mary’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Please meet the family directly at the church.
