WORCESTER- Melvin (Mike) Peter Breton, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was the loving husband of 65 years to the late Judith L. (Clary) Breton who passed away in 2017.
Born in Baldwin, Maine on May 25, 1928 to Alfred and Sarah (Lopeman) Breton, Melvin was raised on his parent's family farm with his his siblings, Leon, William, Joseph, Beatrice, and Wildora. After attending local schools and working on a coal ship up and down the coast, Melvin enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country during the Korean War, earning The Parachute Badge, a Korea Campaign Medal with Arrowhead, 4 Bronze Sv. Stars, and a Good Conduct Medal. Upon his discharge, Melvin continued to serve his community until s1974 as a patrolman with the Worcester Police Department.
A man never known for slowing down, Melvin kept himself busy keeping a job into his 80's; first being employed at local oil companies including, McGrail Oil, Pioneer Oil, Peterson Oil and Shrewsbury Oil Company, he was later employed by PathLab Inc. and Lab Corp. Although he loved to work, there was nothing Melvin enjoyed more than time with his family. After marrying his wife Judith in 1952, they were quickly off to start their family on Norfolk St.
While Melvin enjoyed chasing his two sons around that apartment, with his favorite daughter on the way, he would move the family to a home he would build with his brother-in-law 'Tom' ; a home he and his wife would raise two generations of their family in. When not at home, Melvin enjoyed long Sunday drives with Judy, Jane and her cousin Chris in the backseat, and spending time at Moosehead Lake in Maine where he taught his sons, Billy and Bobby, to love fishing and hunting just as much as he did.
He leaves behind his three children, William A. Breton and his wife, Gina of Worcester, Robert J.Breton, Sr., of Worcester and Jane Arcese and her husband, James of North Brookfield; nine grandchildren, Robert Jr., Michael, John and his wife, Ashleigh, Kristina, and Jamie Breton, Sara, Amy, Michael, and Andrew Reidy; two great grandchildren, Jameson Breton and Kylie Minton; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
