WORCESTER
Melvin E. "Nookie" Redmond, 81, of Grove St. died Mon. June 18. He leaves four children, Melvin "Fran" Redmond, Jr. of Auburn, Donna M. Hoey of Worcester, Kathleen M. Walsh of Myrtle Beach, SC and Molly M. Lloyd of Auburn; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert McDonald, Francis McDonald and Charles McDonald; two sisters, Marion Caldwell and Lorraine Card and nieces and nephews. Four brothers, Clarence Redmond, Roland Redmond, William Redmond and Richard McDonald, a sister, Mildred Lundblad and a grandson, Sean J. Redmond predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of William J. Redmond and Mary Ann (Denio) McDonald and was an Army Veteran of WWII.
Nookie worked for Heald Machine Company and owned Maloney's Bar, Molly's Lunch and Cambridge St. Market before retiring. He was a member of the Vernon Hill American Legion Post %23435 and a former member of the Main South Post American Legion %23341, the PNI Club and the Irish Club.
A Funeral Service will be held Sat., June 23, at %6010:30 AM in CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. A visiting hour will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
