Michael M. Cahill

Worcester: Michael M. Cahill, 86, died on Friday, August 4 in St. Mary Health Care Center after an illness.

   He leaves his wife Ellen “Eileen” P. (Quinn) Cahill, a son Daniel P. Cahill and his wife Kate of Auburn, two grandchildren: Maeve & Quinn, two sisters Margaret Coyne and her husband, Patrick of Worcester and Mary McMahon of County Clare, Ireland and several nieces and nephews.   He was predeceased by a son Michael T. Cahill, brothers John, James and Joseph Cahill.

   Michael was born in County Clare, Ireland, son of Daniel and Catherine (Roach) Cahill.  He came to Worcester in 1961.  He worked in the maintenance department of Worcester State Hospital for 20 years and then he worked in the environmental building at UMass Medical Center for 17 years before retiring in 1997.  He was a member of the retired State, County & Municipal workers association and was a former member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Greendale Men’s Club.  He enjoyed watching Gaelic sports, ice fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

  A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 15 at 10:00 AM in St. Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln St., Worcester.  Please go directly to church.  Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.  There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Healthcare Center, 39 Queen St., Worcester, 01610.  Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle Street is directing funeral arrangements.
