WORCESTER-Michael A. Hartnett, 47, of Worcester was stricken and died in his home on Friday, Oct. 20. Michael is survived by his parents, Raymond and Jane (Kelleher) Hartnett of Worcester; three sisters, Patricia and her husband Michael DePatie of Paxton, Rosemary Hartnett of Leicester and Susan and her husband John Madaio of Paxton; two brothers, Stephen Hartnett and his wife Helene of Oxford and Paul Hartnett of Leicester; two nieces, Molly and Laura Madaio and one nephew, Daniel Hartnett. Michael also leaves his companion of many years, Lucia Ayala.
Michael was born in Worcester and was raised in Auburn. He graduated from Bay Path Vocational High School in 1978 and lived most of his adult life in Worcester. Michael held various jobs in the Worcester area including work as a chef, a driver for Nynex Corporation and most recently as a driver for the Community Healthlink in Worcester. Michael loved the outdoors, particularly camping, ice hockey and motorcycles. Michael began playing hockey as a child in the Auburn Youth Hockey League and went on to play varsity hockey at Bay Path and participated in recreational hockey leagues as an adult. He was an avid fan of all New England sports teams, but the Boston Bruins were always his favorite.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, October 25 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford St., Auburn. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, October 24 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
